About Pureair
South Africa's trusted filtration specialist since 1983
Pureair Filter Company t/a Fibatron was founded in 1983 by Peter Mann in Paarden Eiland, Cape Town. We manufacture and supply quality air filters — HEPA, carbon, panel filters, housings and accessories — for HVAC, industrial and pharmaceutical environments.
Since 2020 the company has been led by Janet Hunter, continuing a proud 40+ year tradition of quality, expertise and service.

Filter selection guide
What filter do I need?
Choose how you'd like to search: by where the filter will be used, or by the MERV rating you need.
MERV 1–4
Minimal filtration
Basic protection. Captures pollen, carpet fibres and dust mites. You can see light through these filters.
PA media filters, typical of window units and ceiling-mounted AC (air conditioning) units
MERV 5–8
Standard residential / offices / malls / warehouses
Captures mould spores, dust mites, cement dust and animal dander. The most widely used filter in offices and factories.
Panel filters: non-supported (NS2000) and wire core (WP2000)
MERV 9–12
Light commercial
The bag filter captures the smaller particles: auto emission particles, dust and pollen.

MERV 13–16
Hospital grade
Filters out some bacteria, sneeze droplet nuclei and some virus carriers. Used in hospitals and commercial buildings.
Cartridge/Cassette filters
MERV 17–18
Operating theatres & clean rooms
Captures 99.99% of particles at 0.3 µm. Used in pharmaceutical manufacturing, operating theatres and clean rooms. Not suitable for standard residential AC units due to the pressure drop.
HEPA filters
MERV 5–8
Medium particles
Dust and dust mites. Used in most offices and factories.
MERV 9–12
Small particles
Dust and auto emissions. Used for better air quality.
MERV 13–16
Fine particles
Smoke and some bacteria. Used in hospitals and for allergies.
MERV 17–18
Ultra-fine particles
Viruses, carbon dust and sea salt. Used for clean rooms and hospital theatres.
